Acklam Car Centre provides 5 great tips to help you through a traffic jam

And there is no difficulty more frustrating than being stuck on your way back from work in a traffic jam. You’ve spent all day slaving away, you just want to get home and put your feet up, but you can’t. Why? Because there’s a line of cars stretching into the distance so long, you can’t even see the end of it, and all your left to do is wait. Wait and be monumentally bored. You can’t even break out your laptop and get some extra work done to pass the time – just in case, by some miracle, the car in front of you moves a few inches!

Try These Five Things to Be Less Bored When Stuck in a Traffic Jam

But that doesn’t mean you should sit there wasting your life away. There are plenty of ways Acklam Car Centre can think of to keep yourself occupied whilst stuck in a mind numbingly boring traffic jam…

1) Turn The Radio On: The most obvious is to turn the radio on, blare out some tunes and invoke your inner pop star to while away the time. The added advantage is that by sticking the radio on, you can listen out for any traffic news that might let you know how long you’re going to be stuck behind that impossibly large Family SUV.

2) Get in Touch With Family: These days, most cars come equipped with speaker phones, so why not give it a test drive. With your weekday usually so busy, it’s kind of hard to keep in touch with everybody normally anyway, so a traffic jam is the perfect time to catch up on your correspondence.

3) Network: Do you ever get the feeling that we just don’t take enough time to talk these days? If you’re stuck in traffic jam, you should use it to broaden your horizons. Try rolling down the window and talking to the driver next to you. You never know, you could gain a whole new perspective on life just from being stuck on the road on the way home from work!

4)      Plan Your Life: Are you one of those people who plans out your monthly budget in the shower or meticulously maps out their latest family holiday when you’re walking the dog? We all need time to plot out our major life decisions, and there’s little else to do in a traffic jam, so why not use the time wisely and plan out your life!

5)      Multitask: If your energy levels are low and you’re stuck in a traffic jam, why wait to get them back up! Bring a nice snack to pass the time with, and you can actually turn it into a somewhat nice experience – especially with the radio turned up!

Don’t Let the Realities of Life Get You Down

Ultimately, we all hate being made to ensure the tedium that is a traffic jam after whiling away the hours at work. Unfortunately, it’s just a fact of life, but that doesn’t mean you should let the boredom get you. Try one of these five tip and you could actually be either really productive, or just have good time!

It’s all About the Test Drive

When you’re looking to buy a second hand car, you need to make sure that it drives the way you want it to. That is why it’s essential that you take it for a spin before you sign on the dotted line. Thinking this, what do you need to know to make the most out of your test drive?
At Acklam Car Centre, we’re the experts when it comes to used cars; in fact we’ve grown to become one of the largest used car sales companies in the North-East of England. We even sell abroad! And we’re growing all the time. That means we know what you are looking for in your used car.
That’s why we know a thing or two about test driving; we’ve seen it so many times we could practically write a book on the subject. If you want to make sure you get the most out of your test drive experience, check out these top tips to making the most of taking your potential used car out for a spin…

  • Every Road Deserves its Turn: Take as long as you need and try the car on all types of road. There’s no point getting a car that only drives smooth on one type as it could damage your vehicle in the long term.
  • Comfort: If you’re going to be using this car to drive long distances, even commute every day, you need to make sure that you’re comfortable. How easily can you get in and out? Can you adjust the seat for maximum relaxation? Can you see everything clearly etc.
  • Space: How much space is there for you, your children and your stuff? Take the car out for a spin packed with all the things it’ll regularly fit so that you can see how its space potential holds up over long journeys.
  • Let it be Smooth: How smooth is your journey? You can measure this by feeling how bumpy the ride is and it’s another reason why you need to make sure you spend a while in that driver’s seat.
  • Every Day: Don’t do anything you wouldn’t otherwise do; drive as you would in your everyday life. Only this way can you measure how likely it is to hold up under the strain.
  • Drain the Battery: Make sure you switch on everything electrical. This will allow you see how likely the car is to last on a long journey; will the battery go flat if you turn the radio on? If the answer is yes, then you’ve avoided a potential nightmare!

Hopefully those few tips from Acklam Car Centre will help you come to a decision on your next test drive.

A Few Tips to Help You Install Your Car Seat

The news this week that’s flaring up over Prince George’s car seat reminds us that this is a problem that parents deal with every day. That is why this week, we wanted to provide you with a few tips to help you make your car seat the safest it possibly can be.

At Acklam Car Centre; one of the fastest growing dealerships throughout the North of England, we sell a variety of family cars. This means we see this issue every day. The instruction manual only tells you so much and you want to make sure that your child is safe. That’s why there’s a few extras that you need to know.

Firstly you must think about where in the car you put the seat. This is because, should the worst happen and you have an accident, where the seat is will directly affect the safety of your child. Always fix it to a rear seat. Never fix it to a rear facing seat with an airbag. It’s actually illegal to do so.

Airbags is something that you need to think about more generally. If you’ve got a car with side airbags, then you need to be careful. Make sure that your child is able to sit properly in the seat at all times. If they can’t, avoid this spot altogether. Otherwise the inquisitive nature of children means that accidents will happen. To be safe, install the car seat on the middle rear seat if at all possible.

When buying your car seat you also need to think about the weight of your child. This will factor into the type of car seat you need to buy. For example, for a baby up to 13 kg (the weight it normally averages in the first 15 months of its life) then a rear facing seat is best.

You also need to think about how to best protect your child’s safety. Basically the best way to do this is to make sure you buy a child seat with a five point harness. The five point harness provides that the security and the restraint needed to ensure that your child stays in their seat.

Finally, you need to make sure that you install it properly. Always follow the instruction manual to the letter. Fit the seat as firmly as you can so that it doesn’t move when the child is in it. Finally, avoid the buckle when you’re fitting the seat to make it as safe as possible.
